The North Carolina Music Hall of Fame held its class of 2023 ceremony on October 19, 2023 for its newest inductees. Every year, a diverse group of musicians with ties to North Carolina are selected to be inducted into the NC Music Hall of Fame, which is located in Kannapolis, NC.

This year’s inductees were Betty Davis, Loudon Wainwright III, George Beverly Shea, Scotty McCreery, Bill “Fatback” Curtis and alternative rockers Fetchin Bones. Live performances this year were at Mooresville Performing Arts Center and included Funk House, who performed on behalf of the late Davis. Inductee Loudon Wainwright III performed a few of his originals on acoustic guitar while Pastor Mark Christian, accompanied on piano, sang on behalf of Gospel great George Beverly Shea.

Fetchin Bones, who played an eclectic blend of musical styles while active in the 1980’s, performed four rocking songs with all seven members, the two variations of the band. The band was founded by husband and wife duo Hope Hicholls and Aaron Pitkin when they were college students.

The live performances were capped off by country singer Scotty McCreery, who gained fame as an American Idol winner and has become one of the most popular country music performers in the world. McCreery told stories about his life and the songs while being accompanied by two guitarists.

The NC Music Hall of Fame’s mission is to recognize, promote, and commemorate the musical heritage of the State of North Carolina.
