British virtual band Gorillaz collaborated with Asha Bhosle on the song, “The Shadowy Light” for their India‑inspired album – The Mountain. The track introduced her voice to a new global audience as one of her final recordings. When it was played at a London stadium show on 20 June, 2026 it left the crowd visibly moved. On stage, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle, clearly emotional, joined on backing vocals — a symbolic passing of the torch.
The BBC’s Rajini Vaidyanathan was at the show and spoke to Gorillaz co-creators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett, as well as Zanai Bhosle, ahead of the performance.
