You’re invited to a special screening of the 1991 romantic drama film, Mississippi Masala on Saturday, May 23 at 6:45pm at the Independent Picture House.
To open the evening, Charlotte musicians Yash Mistry (Tabla) and Antonio Livingston (Djembe) will present a special live performance inspired by the vibrant cultural textures of Mississippi Masala.
Following the screening, join for a special conversation exploring the film’s lasting cultural impact, South Asian representation in cinema, and the real-life histories that shaped the story. Moderated by IPH Board Chair, Setu Raval, the discussion will feature Dr. Anar Parikh (Charlotte Native currently serving as Policy Manager at Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta) and Charlotte community member Deven Thaker, whose family appeared in the film and hosted director Mira Nair during development of the project.
