UNCG Sangam Project Performance

On the auspicious occasion of Diwali here is a recording of a "Sangam" project; a collaborative effort between students of Indian Classical and students of Sinfonia class at UNCG recorded on October 28, 2020. The composition is in Raag MalKaunsh, and the mood is very peaceful.

This is a composition from the late Guru Pandit Dr. Laxmikant S. Doshi. This wonderful project would not have been possible without constant support from UNCG CVPA employees specifically Dr. Rebecca McLeod who leads the Sinfonia Class, and Dr. Gavin Douglas associate professor ethno musicology. Under the unusual circumstances, students showed immense commitment, and performed without written music in front of them, and learned the whole composition through the oral tradition. Social distancing protocols suggested by the university were followed at all times and audience was not permitted at the time of performance.

UNC Greensboro is the only state university in NC where students can choose Indian classical as a part of their degree program (Bachelors/Masters/Doctoral) for credit.
