India Announces Dates for General Election 2019

The dates for the upcoming general election in India have been announced with the vote taking place over several weeks from April 11 to May 23, 2019 in the world's biggest democratic exercise involving approximately 900 million voters.

Voters will elect 543 of 545 MPs to India's lower house of parliament, the Lok Sabha. The remaining 2 seats are reserved for the Anglo-Indian community, which traces part of its ancestry to Europeans who intermarried with Indians in the colonial era. These members are nominated by India's president.
