Conductor Vinay Parameswaran will Lead NC Symphony Performance

The North Carolina Symphony will welcome conductor Vinay Parameswaran to lead the orchestra in its June 23, 2018 performance at Cary's Koka Booth Amphitheatre, “Summer Nights in Spain." Parameswaran is a highly accomplished Indian conductor who was appointed Assistant Conductor of the renowned Cleveland Orchestra last year. The San Francisco native, along with music, studied political science at Brown University, with the thought of one day attending law school. He was fully swayed by music when he took up conducting at Brown and later worked at Curtis with famed conductor Otto-Werner Mueller.

"When you're exposed to that music at that age, it sticks with you," Parameswaran told Cleveland.com. "I knew I had to be around music in some capacity."

The June 23 concert is part of the Summerfest series at Booth Amphitheatre, which provides a relaxed family-friendly atmosphere in a picturesque outdoor setting. People are invited to bring picnics, drinks, lawn chairs, and blankets. There will also be fun activities like the Picnic of the Week contest and the Instrument Zoo where kids can try out different instruments. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

The “Summer in Spain" program will feature a guitarist and flamenco dance with the orchestra in a beautiful program of Spanish music.
